John Woodruff

Game Protector John H. Woodruff - New York State Environmental Conservation Police

End of Watch: Thursday, November 27, 1919

Game Protector Woodruff was killed when an unknown suspect struck him in the head with a heavy weapon.

Protector Woodruff left his home on November 27, 1919 to patrol in Schenectady County. When he did not return from duty that night, search parties were sent out. They were unable to locate Protector Woodruff and his fate was unknown until April 4, 1921 when his remains were discovered in a hole near a creek bed. His revolver was missing. A corner ruled the death a murder. This case was never solved.

Game Protector Woodruff was survived by his wife.
