Deputy Renninger was killed when he was struck by a vehicle while on routine patrol.

Deputy Scott drowned when his boat capsized as he and another deputy attempted to recover the body of a college student. The other deputy was pulled to safety but Deputy Scott was unable to swim to safety and drowned.

Deputy Scott had served with the Dutchess County Sheriff's Department for 8 years.
